AGARTALA, March 24 (TIWN): A speeding truck snatched the life of a bike rider at Anandanagar area under Srinagar Police Station, here today. Police nabbed the driver of the truck.The deceased was identified as Sunil Dey (40) resident of Srinagar.
According to police, one truck bearing number TR03-1787 while proceeding towards Garji from Agartala side collided head on with a bike bearing number TR01-S-9549 which was coming from the opposite direction. As a result rider of the bike namely Sunil Dey (40) died on the spot.
According to sources, the accident occurred due to the rush and negligence driving by the drivers of both vehicles. The incident took place at around 7:30 am.
After getting the information police personnel from Srinagar Police Station rushed to the spot and seized both the vehicles and arrested the accused truck driver namely Manik Mia (45) resident of South Chandrapur. The accused truck driver namely Manik Mia (45) was produced before the court, here today, said cops.
During the years (2009-10 and 2010-11) as many as 1748 road accidents took place that killed 453 persons. A total of 2573 persons were injured in the same period. Add to it were 291 persons who were killed in 1015 road accidents in the year 2012, 1382 person more were injured.
The statistics said, the number of vehicles, which were 58,581 in the year 2001, goes up 66,507 in the year 2002. Gradually the increasing trend for number of vehicles has been continue in the year 2010 it stand 1,60,119 vehicles. But in the year 2011 it abruptly rise to 2, 10,331 vehicles and in the year 2012 it stand at 2, 60,227 vehicles across Tripura.
