Agartala, March 16 (TIWN): Condemning and demanding strong action against the offenders, Tripura Journalists Union and Tripura Working Journalist Association, today met Inspector General of Police
(IGP –Law & Order) Shri Anurag over the issue of attack on a journalist of a local bengali daily. Journalist Abdul Sattar, who reports from Sonamura, was attacked and seriously injured by unidentified miscreants, few days ago.
To add to that, very recently another journalist named Dhiman Bhoumik’s house was also set on fire, on account of revenge.
The state administration and the law and order enforcing agencies seem to learn no lesson from the incident of last April 5 of 2013 at GB hospital when the barbaric attacks by the be doctors and interns of Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) severely attacked and assaulted number of journalist and photo journalist when they were on their duty amidst a mayhem which took place between the doctors and the patient’s family. Since then, Tripura has been observing number of untoward incidences of attacking and threatening the media fraternity of the state so to curb the voice of the people through the news media.
Tripura Working Photo Journalist Union also condemned the attack. The IG assured the deputation of looking into the matter and initiating necessary action.
