AGARTALA, February 27 (TIWN): All India Mahila Samskritik Sanghatan (AIMSS), All India Democratic Youth Organization (AIDYO) and All India Democratic Students' Organization (AIDSO) paid homage to the noted revolutionary and freedom fighter Chandra Shekhar Azad on his 85th death anniversary who laid his life on February 27, 1931 to liberate India from the British at Orient Chowmuhani, here today.
President of All India Democratic Youth Organization (AIDYO) Sanjoy Chowdhury said that known as the mentor of Bhagat Singh, Chandra Shekhar Azad is credited for reorganizing the group of revolutionaries as Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA) after the death of Ram Prasad Bismil. At a very young age, he had socialistic views and committed himself to achieve complete independence by all means.
"For any society, it is very important to remember their golden history and India's modern history's hero is Chandra Shekhar Azad. We are observing his 85th death anniversary and the whole city is participating in the event with utmost enthusiasm," said Sanjoy Chowdhury.
Azad and his compatriots also planned and executed attacks on the British rulers from Shahjahanpur. He was the part of Kakori Train attack, Viceroy's train attack and shooting of J.P. Saunders at Lahore in 1928 to avenge the killing of Lala Lajpat Rai, Chowdhury mentioned.
Azad died at Alfred Park in Allahabad on 27 February 1931 when he was waiting for his revolutionary colleague Sukhdev Raj. He killed three policemen and wounded some others there. To fulfill his pledge to never be captured alive, he shot himself dead with his last bullet.
His bravery, dare devil persona and youthfulness still charms the Indian youth.
