Agartala, February 17 (TIWN): Leaving no stone unturned, the left panel and anti-left panel of lawyers are gearing up to hit the best in upcoming Tripura Bar Association’s election which is scheduled to be held on February 22.
Altogether 15 candidates of two panels will be elected through the election. With the winning candidates, a 15-member committee will be constituted for the posts of president, vice-president, secretary, two assistant secretaries and 10 members.
As many as 801 voters from across the state would cast their votes in favour of the candidates while counting of the votes will be conducted on the same day of vote casting.
Left panel and Congress’s Legal Cell in alliance with anti-left panel would contest the election while the last election was contested in between All India Lawyers’ Union (AILU) of Left panel, Legal Cell of Congress and anti-left alliance of anti-left panel.
According to a source of Tripura Bar Association, Haribol Debnath and Bhaskar Debbarma of AILU would contest the poll for president and secretary posts respectively while Abhijit Ganachowdhury and Debashis Rakshit would contest the polls for president and secretary posts in favour of the anti-left alliance panel.
The candidates of both panels have submitted their nomination papers recently and Monday was the last day for withdrawing nomination papers. Among the candidates, Dipak Biswas of anti-left panel has withdrawn his nomination paper.
Keeping the upcoming election in mind, the candidates of both panels are carrying campaign in full swing. According to the political experts, this year’s election is likely to add additional significance as anti-left panel’s votes will not be divided.
