556 persons killed in road accidents in last 3 yrs

Agartala, Feb 12 (TIWN) :A total 556 persons were killed and 3253 others injured in road accidents in the State in last three years.
Minister in charge Home, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar in a written reply of the questions of Congress Members,Jitendra Sarkar today disclosed that during the years 2012, 2013 and 2014 took place in the State as a result of which 556 persons were killed and 3253 received injuries.
Out of the total 231persons were killed and 1106 accidents in 2012, 184 persons were killed and 1115 were injured in road accidents in 2013 and 141 were killed and 1032 were injured in 2014.
Sarkar detailed the measures already initiated by the government and assured the House that he would ask the law department to examine the feasibility of amending the relevant sections of the IPC to create stringent deterrents against reckless driving.
“We know that most of the accidents occur because of rough and reckless driving of vehicles and we welcome the suggestions put forward by the Opposition. Affirmative action will follow,” he added.
