AGARTALA, Sep 30 (TIWN): Resident doctors at AGMC and GBP Hospital have announced a strike following an incident involving a senior resident doctor at the Medicine OPD.

According to a letter issued by the Resident Doctors’ Association of AGMC and GBP Hospital, the association has decided to organise a strike in front of the Principal’s office.

The association said the incident has raised concerns over the safety, dignity, privacy and professional security of doctors while performing their clinical duties.

The Resident Doctors’ Association has placed several demands before the hospital administration.

These include the immediate deletion and correction or apology regarding videos circulated on social media, along with a request to stop further circulation.

The association has also called for an end to what it described as a one-sided media trial, saying that no conclusion or public judgment should be made without giving the concerned doctor an opportunity to present their statement and version of events.

Another demand is for the hospital administration to strictly regulate and prohibit unauthorised photography and videography inside hospital wards, OPDs and other patient-care areas, citing the privacy, dignity and safety of doctors, healthcare workers and patients.

The association has further requested that the Medical Superintendent lodge an FIR against the person who allegedly made false allegations against the concerned doctor, with appropriate legal action as applicable.

It has also demanded the deployment of TSR personnel instead of SIS security guards wherever required, along with adequate security arrangements within the hospital premises.

The Resident Doctors’ Association has urged the administration to take immediate corrective and preventive measures and ensure a safe working environment for doctors and healthcare workers.

The letter was signed by Dr. Shantanu Debnath, General Secretary of the Resident Doctors’ Association, AGMC and GBP Hospital.

The association has also requested transparent communication from the administration regarding the steps being taken to prevent such incidents from recurring.
