TIWN Sep 18, 2026

AGARTALA, Sep 18 (TIWN): With Durga Puja approaching, the Tripura Police Traffic Department has invited applications for Vehicle Passes allowing authorised vehicles to move through restricted or “No Entry” areas in Agartala during the festival period.
According to the official notification issued by the Superintendent of Police (Traffic), the passes are being considered for vehicles associated with essential services, government departments, media organisations, and various important professions, offices, institutions and individuals, depending on their requirement during the Puja days.
The vehicle pass application specifically seeks permission for movement within Agartala city during Durga Puja 2026. Applicants have to provide details including the vehicle registration number, owner’s name, driving licence, insurance, fitness certificate, pollution certificate, road tax and whether any traffic violation or pending e-challan exists.
Application dates and timings
As per the notification, applications are to be submitted at the designated Traffic Bhavan during the specified dates and hours:
-
September 21–25, 2026
-
September 28–30, 2026
-
Morning: 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM
-
Afternoon: 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM
The police have specified that one application must be submitted for each vehicle. Applicants are required to attach photocopies of the necessary vehicle documents, including the RC, insurance, PUC, fitness certificate and driving licence. Where the driver is not the vehicle owner, an owner’s consent letter/certificate is also required.
Importantly, merely submitting an application does not automatically guarantee issuance of a pass. The Traffic Department will scrutinise the applications, documents and stated purpose before deciding whether a Vehicle Pass should be issued. Previous traffic violations and pending e-challans may also be checked.
The notification further states that approved passes will be issued during the October 1–15 period during government office hours. Even vehicles carrying valid passes will not be permitted to enter designated “No Vehicle Zones” around major Puja mandaps and congested areas.
The department has also warned that a pass may be cancelled or seized if it is misused or if the purpose stated in the application is found to be incorrect. Action may also be taken under applicable law in cases of traffic violations.
