AGARTALA, Sep 9 (TIWN): Ahead of VC Elections, Opposition Leader Jiten Chowdhury criticized the BJP and its ally Tipra Motha accusing these parties’ activists of causing massive attacks on the opposition members. Citing Hezamara like areas, Chowdhury said that the party nominated candidates were beaten up by ruling party members, in front of police.

“They have been attacking the opposition candidates and on the other hand, they are going to the candidates’ house to house, pressuring them to give up the nominations," he said.

Chowdhury alleged, the leaders of Tipra Motha are fooling their supporters and that’s why in the Delhi meeting, the accord issue was brought.

“What’s the relation between the accord and the election alliance? Tipra Motha’s own leaders are now in the BJP party. How can they stay in the alliance if the accord has not been fulfilled so far?”

“Doesn’t matter how much their (BJP, Tipra Motha) leaders are close to each other but their party workers are unable to believe in each other. That’s why yesterday, in Rupaichari BJP party office was set on fire by BJP workers only,” he claimed.

The State Election Commission, Tripura has announced the schedule for the General Election to all Village Committee Constituencies, 2026.

  • Polling: 28 September 2026

  • Nomination: 1–8 September 2026

  • Counting: 5 October 2026

Jiten Chowdhury mentioned that even after all these reports, no proactive actions are being taken by the authorities to make this election ‘free and fair.’
