AGARTALA, Nov 25 (TIWN): BJP former MP Pratima Bhowmik’s brother’s arrest in connection with anti-national activities, including trafficking and fake certificate distribution, has sparked heavy controversy in Tripura. The issue arose after Pratima Bhowmik’s brother Bidhan Bhowmik was arrested by police based on his wife’s complaint; she was allegedly brought by him to India and is now tortured by him. Although police are investigating the charges and took him into custody after producing him before the court, the accusations against him are severe.

After Trafficking, Fake Aadhaar Creation Allegations Raised Against BJP Leader Pratima Bhowmik’s Brother; Opposition Leader Alleges a Few Cabinet Ministers Came After 1971

Why It’s a Setback for BJP?

Since the BJP runs nationwide campaigns to identify foreigners, Bidhan Bhowmik’s accusation of trafficking a Bangladeshi woman is particularly damaging. The allegations also include that he distributes fake certificates like Aadhaar, which is not only a breach of national trust but also a severe criminal offense.

This Is Not an Isolated Incident: Opposition

Opposition leader Jiten Chowdhury issued an immediate reaction after Bhowmik’s arrest. While talking to the media, Chowdhury said, “This is not an isolated incident. It’s not that a small instance happened accidentally. Since the BJP came to power, the law and order has been repeatedly broken, and after destroying the structure of the rule of law, today they are doing their best for their self-interests.”

Trafficking Charges: Legal Process for Marriage Was Not Followed

“Pratima Bhowmik was also a central minister, and her brother, using her father’s name, has created fake Aadhaar certificates. Then he went to Bangladesh, brought her (his wife) here, and got married—without following the rules and regulations brought a foreigner,” said Jiten Chowdhury.

"Some other BJP Leaders are Bangladeshi"

According to Jiten Chowdhury, there are other BJP leaders who came to India after 1971 and created fake certificates.

“I’m not taking their names, but there are allegations that even a few of the heavyweight cabinet ministers came here after 1971, and in the same process, they illegally managed fake documents. Now they are sheltered under BJP,” said Chowdhury.

He criticized the government, alleging that whenever any criminal is detected from the BJP, the investigation shatters.

“I want the police to take a neutral stand and act accordingly. Also, there are trafficking and ganja smuggling charges against many of them (BJP leaders). People of Sonamura know that. So, the law should take its own course,” said Chowdhury.
