Agartala, February 11 (TIWN): Acting on tip-off, a joint team led by Assistant Commandant of 29 Bn BSF recovered 350 kg dried cannabis worth Rs. 17.50 lakh from Banshpukur village under Jatrapur police station in Sonamura sub-division here today.
Based on secret information available with field G unit of Dhanpur BOP, the joint team including Senior Excise Inspectors of Sepahijala District Magistrate’s office, police personnel of Jatrapur police station along with women constables, jawans of Border Security Force (BSF) including Field G team Inspector-Arun Yadav carried out the anti-ganja operation at Banshpukur village.
During the raid, the joint team seized 350 kg dried cannabis from a forest land in the village which was stored for smuggling to Bangladesh. The forest land is located at a distance of 8 km meter from international boundary with Bangladesh and 4 km meter from the Dhanpur Border Out Post (BOP).
However, the joint team failed to detain anybody in this connection. All of the seized items were handed over of the officials of Excise Department.
It is worthy to mention here that many such anti-ganja raids were conducted earlier where a vast number of ganja plantations were destroyed led by the then Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Subhasis Das in Sonamura sub-division.
After the completion of this successful raid, a BSF source informed that the entire sub-division is floating on various contraband items. A section of youths and school going students are bitterly addicted to these narcotic items. With an effort to prevent the drug addiction, the administration will keep continuing anti-drug raids in different corners of the sub-division, added the source.
