AGARTALA, Oct 21 (TIWN): A tragic road accident claimed the life of a retired police personnel, Kanan Debnath (65), in Kailashahar's Paiturbazar area on Diwali evening. Debnath, who had served in the state police department for a long time, was riding his scooter (TR 02 D 9753) when a speeding Toto (TR 02 C 3225) collided with him.
The impact left Debnath severely injured, and he succumbed to his injuries at Unakoti District Hospital, where he was rushed by firefighters. The Toto driver fled the scene, but the vehicle has been seized by the police. A probe has been launched to apprehend the absconding driver.
Debnath was known for his honesty and humanitarian approach, and his demise has sent shockwaves in the community. The police will conduct an autopsy and hand over the body to the family after the post-mortem examination.
