AGARTALA, Sep 27 (TIWN): A devastating fire broke out at a variety store, Saha Varieties, in Champamura market on Saturday morning, causing significant damage estimated to be around Rs 5 lakh. The fire was brought under control thanks to the prompt action of market traders, who prevented it from spreading to other shops.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started when a lit incense stick was left unattended inside the store. The owner, Bhabatosh Saha, suffered injuries while trying to put out the fire. The market traders managed to control the blaze before the fire department arrived, although the delay in the fire engine's arrival due to traffic congestion might have worsened the situation.
The incident has been investigated by the police, and the market committee is assessing the damage. The swift action of the market traders prevented a larger disaster, and the incident highlights the importance of fire safety measures in commercial establishments.
