AGARTALA, Sep 16 (TIWN): The West Tripura District Administration has canceled the license of 'Happiest Hour,' a restaurant-cum-bar located on the rooftop of the UD Building in Agartala. According to an order issued by Dr. Vishal Kumar, Excise Collector of West Tripura, the license holder, Gautam Debnath, repeatedly violated the provisions of the Excise Act. The administration found that on September 6, 2025, the bar served liquor beyond the permitted hours, with evidence showing that liquor was being served and consumed even after 11 pm. Furthermore, unauthorized DJ performances and dance events were organized late into the night, resembling nightclub culture. This was confirmed through a review of CCTV footage.
Additionally, the licensee failed to submit the required list of employees working at the bar and did not respond to a show-cause notice. These actions demonstrated a clear disregard for the rules and regulations governing the bar's operation.
As a result, the administration has directed the licensee to immediately surrender the license document, liquor stock, records, and CCTV NVR to the District Excise Office. Failure to comply may lead to legal action under the Excise Act. The cancellation is based on Section 40 (1)(g) of the Tripura Excise Act, 1987.
