AGARTALA, Sep 11 (TIWN): Two youths wrote a letter to Tipra Motha party founding leader Pradyot Debbarma and posted it in Agartala Post Office post-box. They wanted to clear their dues to the Tipra Motha leader, as recently he claimed, he should be the actual "malik" (owner) of Agartala city along with other areas of the state.
Pradyot Debbarma recently, during a speech at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, claimed he is the actual owner of Agartala, signifying his ancestors ruled Tripura for centuries.
But Tripura was merged with India, and his forefathers decided to make Tripura a part of India, and then Tripura gradually became a full-fledged state in the following years. Naturally, Debbarma's comment quickly spread on social media.
These two youths thus came to the Post Office, writing a letter to the Tipra Motha leader asking how much they had to pay him so that the rent would be clear.

Congress MLA Sudip Barman also reacted to the comment about being the "owner of Agartala. Barman said, "I'm sorry to say, but India is a sovereign country and there is no princely state."
However, Barman anticipated that Pradyot Debbarma's comment had a vote bank intention behind it and was to shift people's focus from the main issues to a controversy ahead of ADC election.
