AGARTALA, Sep 3 (TIWN):A joint operation by the Baijalbari police and forest department led to the seizure of a significant quantity of timber in the Baijalbari area on Tuesday night. The operation was conducted based on a tip-off that a Bolero pickup vehicle carrying timber was heading from Kalyanpur to Agartala via Amarpur Road.
The police team, led by Baijalbari Police Station OC Jugol Tripura and Second OC Tilak Jamatia, along with officials from the Padmabil forest department, intercepted the vehicle with registration number T06C1738. Two individuals, identified as Nitish Debnath (42), driver, from Uttar Majlishpur, and Bimal Debbarma (30), helper, from Uttar Mahannipur, were apprehended.
The seized timber, measuring 70-75 feet in length, is estimated to be worth around Rs 80,000 to Rs 85,000. The authorities are currently investigating the matter further.
