AGARTALA, Sep 1 (TIWN): The BJP-led alliance government has created an environment where crimes like murder, terrorism, abduction, and rape are rampant, said former MP and senior CPI(M) leader Jharna Das Baidya. Speaking at the 15th conference of the All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) in Belonia, Baidya criticized the government's failure to protect women's rights and dignity.
The conference, attended by nearly 200 women delegates, adopted a resolution condemning the government's inaction and vowed to fight for women's rights and democracy. Despite seeking permission for a rally, the police denied it, citing law and order concerns.
Baidya highlighted the stark contrast between the government's words and actions, pointing out that while Chief Minister Manik Saha acknowledges women's insecurity, he simultaneously promotes Tripura as a prosperous and smart state. The conference concluded with the election of a new committee and plans for future agitation.
