AGARTALA, Aug 12 (TIWN): A group of 19 families, residing on government land in the West Joypur area for over four decades, approached the District Magistrate's office in Agartala, seeking alternative housing arrangements.
The families, comprising over 100 members, including children, women, and elderly individuals, have been paying municipal taxes and electricity bills as per government norms.
Despite their long-standing residency, they recently received eviction notices, leaving them uncertain about their future. The families, mostly daily wage laborers and domestic workers, claim they cannot afford to purchase land and have appealed to local authorities for assistance.
The families emphasized that they are not opposed to government development projects but demand rehabilitation measures to ensure their survival. Citing past instances where alternative housing was provided to displaced families, they hope for a humane approach from the government.
