AGARTALA, Aug 12 (TIWN): While addressing at Pragna Bhawan in an AIDS awareness program, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha called for social and moral support to the AIDS patients, who might suffer from social stigma. The chief minister stated that, whereas people talk about how to prevent AIDS, it’s also important to look after the people who are already victims of AIDS. He further referred to an example of a sportsman in Belonia who was addicted to drugs and stated how the ambition of being No. 1 led him down the path of drugs. CM stated “to be the best” and “to be the center of attraction” feelings might lead to frustration, ultimately driving people to drug dependency.
“They (AIDS patients) should not feel alienated in society, and that’s why they should be given support and not made a subject of backlash,” CM told the gathering.
