Agartala, Aug 1 (TIWN): A controversy has erupted in Bishalgarh's Betaga area over allegations that Sapan Munshi misused government materials for constructing a petrol pump.
Munshi, a former heavyweight leader is accused of using materials from the Rural Development Department, including those meant for other projects, to build his petrol pump.
The allegations suggest that Munshi, leveraging his connections with officials in the Rural Development Department, including Executive Engineer Ukendra Riang, SDO Ashish Das, Engineer Ripon Debnath, and others, managed to obtain government materials for his personal project.
Upon receiving complaints, the District Magistrate of South Tripura ordered an investigation. However, the officials tasked with the probe are allegedly connected to Munshi, raising concerns about a potential cover-up.
In a dramatic turn of events, department officials locked up the construction site in a makeshift shed on Thursday night, and a raid was conducted the following morning. When questioned about the incident, department officials refused to comment.
The incident has sparked rumors that officials advised Munshi to remove government materials from the site to avoid detection. The administration's next steps in ensuring a fair investigation will be closely watched.
