AGARTALA, July 24 (TIWN): Tripura's former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar slammed the BJP-led state government on Smart meter imposition for Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) consumers. Talking to the media on Thursday, Sarkar said, there was absolutely no reason for installing new meters when the existing meters were working well.

“This is a concerning matter. People were seeing their unit usage with existing meters, too,” said Sarkar. “So why are these new meters needed?”

“This is clear that it was done to help the capitalists who manufactured the Smart meters. The government had to sell them on behalf of them, and that’s why it was done,” said Sarkar.
