AGARTALA, July 2 (TIWN): On the occasion of the road safety event, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha appealed to bikers and bike riders to wear helmets at any cost when they are riding. “In my medical career, whenever I saw an accident victim, what I observed the first and major injuries are seen on the face and head. Face injuries can be fixed later, but head injuries are dangerous and life-threatening. But if the biker is wearing a helmet, chances of accident related major injuries are reduced,” said CM.
CM was addressing at Astabal stadium on Road Safety event, attended by DGP Anurag Dhankar and Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury.
Dr. Saha said that the helmet wearing practice should not be out of fear of police, but it has to be naturally driven by the biker for his / her own safety. He also requested that the person who is sitting next to the rider must wear a helmet.

The chief minister appealed to people to come forward and to save lives when an accident happens, mentioning in critical cases a person who helps a victim by hospitalizing him/ her would be awarded with Rs. 25,000 and a certificate.
CM also mentioned various initiatives the government is taking to reduce the number of accidents, including speed measuring, eliminating 15-year-old vehicles, etc.
