AGARTALA, June 23 (TIWN): Tripura transport minister Sushanta Chowdhury Monday told the media that there is a 13% decrease in the road accidents in Tripura.
The Minister was interacting with the media after a meeting with the transport department officers, which he said was organized to understand and discuss a newly launched scheme by the Government of India for accident victims.
“The new scheme states that in an accident case, if the injured person is taken to a hospital and saved within the golden hours by taking the person to the nearest hospital, which means 1 hour, then there will be a compensation of Rs. 1.5 lakhs, but there is a process for it,” said Chowdhury. “We have primarily completed the initial meeting about it.”
“We have observed in a survey that there is 13% decline in the road accidents, which shows the role of police, the role of the traffic department, and local people as well, the minister said.
“It was a time when people did not help an accident victim due to legal complication fears, but later, due to the interference of the Supreme Court and new laws, the fear reduced.”
