AGARTALA, April 20 (TIWN): Enforcement Directorate’s officials who came from Chennai were prevented from taking action in the Bishalgarh subdivision of Tripura. According to locals, the officials came to arrest a gold shop owner Satyaranjan Karmakar, in connection with a theft incident in Chennai.
“They can arrest someone with due process, after talking to the local police,” said a local gold businessman body’s secretary. “They came in civil dress and in a connection with a theft incident in Chennai, tried to arrest our local businessman, which is unacceptable.”
A group of local businessmen rushed to the Bishalgarh police station to solve the matter, inquiring if ED officials are following the protocols.
Centering on this incident, a mass gathering was observed in the Bishalgarh police station.
The ED officials had to return from the spot after the chaos, and the Bishalgarh police are now looking into the matter.
