AGARTALA, April 6 (TIWN): First ever in Agartala press club history, a woman journalist has made her space, alerting the man-dominated press club history in the state. Chitra Roy, a senior journalist, was elected as the Vice President who made her position with 98 votes, defeating the runner who got 71 votes. After being elected, Roy assured that she would work on giving press ID cards to young journalists who stayed long-deprived of getting the press cards. Pranab Sarkar, editor-in-chief of Headlines Tripura to continue as the President of the press club. Young journalist Ramakanta Dey has been elected as the secretary.
Ironically, when the voting was ongoing, protest broke out outside the press club, organized by a group of journalists stating they were not allowed to vote as they don’t have press-ID cards even after working in authentic medias.

A woman journalist said, she has been working for seventeen years in this field but still not included among the press card holders.
The agitating journalists also said that massive corruption happened in the last two years under the press club and they have sufficient evidence for that.
