1,44, 567 ST students receive stipends, scholarships

Agartala, February 8 (TIWN): For the welfare of education development programmes, ST Welfare Department has provided boarding house stipends, pre-metric and post-metric scholarships among 1,44, 567 ST students across the state in the current financial year, said an official source.
“Altogether 750 ST students have received Madhyamik drop-out training while more 302 ST students were given training for various competitive examinations including TCS, TPS, IAS, Joint Entrance and Banking”, said the source.
Besides, the department has sponsored a total of 175 students for studying Nursing and Paramedical while altogether 17188 students were assisted financially for purchasing text books, the source added.
According to the official source, in order to develop the educational infrastructure, as many as five 50 seated boys and girls’ hostels were set up.
The source further said, “Aiming financial progress, the department has also offered supports to 379 beneficiaries for tea and rubber cultivation as well.”
On the other hand, the department has distributed 175799 hectare lands among 123293 patta holder families under Forest Right Act and many of them were involved in fruits and vegetables farming, added the source.
