AGARTALA, Nov 14 (TIWN): Congress earlier appealed to Governor Indra Sena Nallu to ask the Election Commission to cancel Tripura Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma’s legislator because he allegedly lied in the form by concealing his property and earnings.
A huge personal earning rise was seen during the Minister's tenure since 2023 which raised eyebrows as in the 2023 affidavit, he wrote his earnings are zero and his wife’s earnings is zero and still has Rs. 56 lakhs of wealth but the properties he purchased including a petrol pump, as per the accusation from Congress, are impossible without corruption. In affidavit, Debbarma wrote he was a Social Worker by profession.
On the other hand, a document was claimed to be received by Congress showing, that the Minister actually used Tribal Welfare Funds for constructing boundary wall in one of his houses.
When journalists asked, the Minister said, “Did I make a home with government funds? I just walled my home for protection…..” After the strange claims, the Minister during a press meeting went on, “So many people make a profit and your guys (Congress leaders) irritate when we, the Tiprasa people earn a little!”
Amid all these, now, the Minister has finally filed a case against the Congress leaders including MLA Sudip Barman, party state president Asish Saha and others. Now, it’s to be seen what action, Congress would take in response.
Congress MLA Sudip Barman in September raised the question in the Assembly, how can a person gain that much wealth within such a short period? After that, Bikash Debbarma called a press meeting and said, he is always very wealthy and an inheritor of Zameendar.
On September 19, Congress leaders met Governor Indra Sena Nallu with the mismatched property of the Minister in the election affidavit. Congress requested the Governor to take action. Simultaneously, Congress also complained to ECI about this matter.
On September 20, Congress MLA Sudip Barman got notice to Vacate the MLA quarter after he exposed Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma’s scandals.
Reacting to this Sudip Barman on September 23 said, he just called a person thief, who is a thief.
