SONAMURA, July 30 (TIWN): On Tuesday, a task force from the Jatrapur police station area conducted a series of raids on illegal forest cutting and cannabis cultivation operations.
The operation was based on secret information and aimed to prevent environmental degradation and illegal activities.
According to Jatrapur Police Station OC Subrata Debnath, the raids resulted in the destruction of millions of carrots and approximately 50,000 saplings across two locations in the northern forest of Manai Pathar village area. Two nurseries and newly planted gardens were also destroyed.
The operation involved a team of police personnel, including Inspector Shyamsunder Riang, Arup Debbarma, and Sub-Inspector Amar Kishore Debbarma, along with forest department staff and BSF jawans.
In a separate operation, ASI Kafurai Debbarma led a team to the Neura Mura area, where they destroyed newly grown cannabis plantations and nurseries.
OC Debnath emphasized the importance of maintaining order during the ongoing three-tier panchayat election campaign, stating that the police would take swift action in response to any disturbances. He also assured that the national campaign would continue uninterrupted.
