AGARTALA, June 25 (TIWN): Opposition leader Jitendra Chowdhury on Sunday said, BJP Minister Sushanta Chowdhury’s statement about Dipak Majumder’s MLA post without resigning from Mayor post reflects BJP’s extreme arrogance and its no respect for the rules of the nation and the conventions.
“Their (BJP) policy is very simple. Whatever they like, they should be allowed to do regardless what rules say. I did not talk about Municipality’s rules that confirm whether a person can continue as a Mayor as well as MLA. What does Tripura Assembly rule say ?”, said Jitendra Chowdhury.
He cited various examples, where leaders resigned from ADC’s posts before joining as a legislator at Tripura Assembly.
“In West Bengal Mayor was at a time the MLA because West Bengal’s Assembly has passed that law. The BJP led Tripura Govt could have done an ordinance before oath-taking if it is that much necessary,” said Chowdhury.
