AGARTALA, June 12 (TIWN): Several families in Kumarghat Municipality area are victims of river bank erosion.
Due to continuous erosion, the human settlement is about to sink under the river.
It is alleged that the concerned authorities are silent in taking appropriate action. Demands are being raised to take effective action.
Residents of the Old Shibtholi area located in ward number four of Kumarghat Municipality have been suffering from river erosion for years.
“There is no appropriate action taken by the authorities. Due to the department's indifference, the residents are about to lose their homes and lands,” said a local woman.
Locals complain that some temporary work is being done every year to prevent the collapse but it’s not helping them find a permanent solution. Now, they appealed to the government to end the problem and save their houses on the river bank.
