AGARTALA, June 10 (TIWN): Tripura State Election Commissioner Saradindu Chowdhury on Monday informed media that the Election Department would request Tripura Government to permit Panchayat Polls to be conducted by July last week or August first week, as the existing panchayat members’ terms are ending by August first week. Talking to media, the State Election Commissioner said, “By August first week, the three-layer panchayat members’ tenure is going to be ended. Naturally, we have taken the initiative to complete the election in due time. It means by the first week of August the Panchayat election can be completed. So we already finalized the polling station list.”
“2650 polling stations will be needed in our 35 blocks. The draft voters’ list has already been published and by 24th June, it will be finalized,” he said.
According to the draft voter list, the voters’ numbers are 12,95,086.
In 35 blocks total seats are 6370, in 35 Panchayat Samiti the seat numbers are 423 seats, and in 8 Jila Parishads total seat numbers are 116.
