AGARTALA, May 21 (TIWN): A huge quantity of “Banarasi” sarees were seized by police in Kamalpur, Amtali in a joint attempt by BSF. It is suspected that the sarees were being taken to Bangladesh by illegal means. Talking to a police official, he told media that the seized saree would be worth of Rs. 25 lakhs approximately. Police have informed the custom authority about it and the investigation is underway. Based on secret information, the police caught the vehicle. However,r nobody could be arrested on spot but with the vehicle number recovered, police are expecting to arrest the culprit behind the smuggling attempt. Total 690 sarees were seized. Whether the sarees were carried with proper purchases or theft items, police to probe it.
