The incident happened in Durgapur, Sonamura. The deceased Sahid Mia (45) and injured Kabil Mia live in the same village.

Family members of the injured person have accused BSF of the incident. Kabil Mia at first was taken to Aralia hospital and then referred to Melaghar and then again was referred to GB hospital. He is now undergoing treatment in GB hospital. 

The injured person Kabil Mia’s wife said, he had no connection with the incident. Another person named Sahid Mia was arguing with BSF officials when the firing started and unintentionally her husband Kabil Mia left injured. She said Sahid Mia died while taken to hospital. She assured, that there were no smuggling-like activities behind the incident.

However, BSF’s version of the incident reason is yet to be known.

Sonamura subdivision is bordered by Bangladesh and often smuggling, clash-like incidents are reported.
