AGARTALA, Feb 19 (TIWN): The national Congress party’s bank account was seized ahead of the Lok Sabha poll 2024 over an income tax demand of Rs. 210 crores but it was later allowed to operate till the next hearing on 21st February. According to a national news report, the current unpaid income tax is Rs. 114 crore. Whereas there are disputes over the actual unpaid income tax, Tripura Congress held a protest in Agartala, alleging, that such actions by central agencies before the election are just to paralyze the Congress party’s political activities. “This action came immediately after the Supreme Court had given a verdict against the Modi Govt’s electoral bond, saying, it prompts corruption,” said Tripura Congress. The agitators gheraoed the Income Tax office in Agartala against the IT Dept’s action against the national Congress party.
“Congress is the oldest and now the largest opposition party in India. The party which has the major contribution to the Indian freedom fight can not be suppressed with such ill motives,” said Tripura Congress.
