AGARTALA, Feb 12 (TIWN): Protesting against the restriction of Roman script for Kokbork language, students blocked road in various places of Tripura.

In Khumulwng, school students under Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) blocked road.

The blockade continued for a long time since morning.

Later, opposition leader Animesh Debbarma met the agitating students. The Tipra Motha legislator has supported students’ demand.

The protest erupted after TBSE declared that Roman script could not be used for Kokborok language anymore. Till now both Roman and Bangla were allowed whereas the sudden order has generated resentment and also hurdles for many students who are from English medium backgrounds.

TBSE President however has put an excuse of sending a request to CBSE to allow Roman script for Kokborok and the request is yet pending.
