AGARTALA, Feb 6 (TIWN): Local people expressed extreme displeasure over the ongoing construction at Udaipur to Sonamura’s Srimantapur location after a retaining wall collapsed on 10th day of its construction. The local people said, the wall bent towards the opposite side, but what would have happened if it had bent towards this direction ? People might have been injured. The Udaipur-Sonamura road construction has started for a long time. Although right now it’s a national highway but the Govt has plans to convert it into an international highway but due to poor construction, the road areas might be at risk in future. The incident took place at Sonamura’s Rabinda Nagar Gram Panchayat’s Shantipalli area.
On the other hand, due to the construction work, the area is suffering due to extreme dust but the authority has no concern about throwing water regularly causing various problems for the locals including diseases related to the respiratory system.
After the incident, the construction company reportedly reached with a bulldozer for eyewashing but locals shopped the process and informed media.
Public demanded proper monitoring of the construction work.
