AMBASSA, Jan 6 (TIWN): Protesting against pending MGNREGA wages, local people blocked road in the Ambassa-Gandacherra route, resulted a heavy congested traffic jam on both side of the road. Vehicles remained stranded for hours there as the agitators were unready to vacate the area without getting their wages which has been pending for 1 and half month. Talking to some of the agitators, they alleged that for months they are knocking doors of various offices including the panchayat but everytime they are assured to be helped but no help was ultimately provided.
“We met the Panchayat members but no solution so far has come out. We need our wages for which we have been waiting for one and half month. Seems, in Sankranti also we, will not get our wages”, said an agitating woman.
“We are poor people, and invested our labour and time for the works but now, we are not getting our minimum wage”, she added.
Police officials rushed to the spot and tried to vacate the space by assuring the agitators that their issue would be addressed. However, after a long time of protest, at last the agitators withdrew the protest after getting full assurance that their wages will be cleared.
