AGARTALA, Sep 8 (TIWN): Rift is not only inside BJP, but rift prevails inside CPI-M too over a long time.
When CPI-M State Secretary Jitendra Chowdhury was seen busy during bypoll campaigning for the party and BJP led the campaigning with CM Manik Saha’s house-to-house vote-seeking, CPI-M major face, former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar was had hardly come to the scene.
There is an internal allegation against Manik Saha for never supporting Jitendra Chowdhury and attempting to play a ‘superior-role’ before Jitendra Chowdhury’s leadership as Manik Sarkar did not want Jitendra Chowdhury to be party secretary.
After Jitendra Chowdhury became the Party Secretary, Manik Sarkar refrained from Assembly Election, taking retirement from Assembly.
The criticism against Manik Sarkar for ditching Jitendra Chowdhury is not new. When Jitendra Chowhdury was gaining popularity during Left regime and a section of public visioned Jitendra Chowdhury as the next CM, Jitendra Chowdhury was destined to the Parliament as MP, detaching him from state politics and cabinet post.
CPI-M has faced a significant defeat in by-poll. Nevertheless, Jitendra Chowdhury was all alone in the battle fighting against BJP.
