AGARTALA, Aug 20 (TIWN): Since Supreme Court of India made D.EI.Ed mandatory for primary school teachers, excluding B.Ed, Tripura B.Ed holders are concerned about what to do next. However, NCERT has not issued any guidelines to Tripura yet. According to Supreme Court’s guidelines, without D.EI.Ed primary teachers can’t be recruited that although is a setback for the B.Ed holders but D.El.Ed holders are happy. They recently complained also how B.Ed holders can apply for primary teaching posts. Tripura has limited numbers of D.El.Ed holders that have ushered the hope for the D.El.Ed candidates.
Stating that B.Ed degree-holders are not trained to have the pedagogical skills to handle kids, the Supreme Court has ruled that only diploma holders in elementary education can be appointed as primary school teachers.
It quashed the 2018 notification of National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) which specified B.Ed as qualification for primary teachers.
The court said the right to education implies quality education and appointing teachers not trained to teach kids at the primary level would amount to compromising the quality of education.
