Agartala, Jan 23 (TIWN): Along with the country, Tripura will celebrate the fifth National Voters’ Day (NVD) across the state in 25 January. The central function will be held in the state capital at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan which will be presided over by chief secretary G.K. Rao.
Every year Election Commission of India (ECI) organizes NVD across the country to increase enrolment of voters, especially of the newly eligible ones. The National Voters’ Day is also utilised to spread awareness among voters regarding effective participation in the electoral process,” the statement added.
The Election Commission of India was established Jan 25, 1950.The government decided to celebrate January 25 every year as ‘National Voters’ Day’ to encourage more young voters to take part in the political process and it started from Jan 25, 2011 to mark the EC’s foundation day.
