AGARTALA, March 29 (TIWN): A Container lorry loaded with Cannabis seized at Bagbasa out post While smuggling to Assam from Agartala through Assam-Agartala Road. The lorry driver was arrested. The incident took place at Bagbasa out post under North Tripura district. It is reported that based on secret sources information, the police of Bagbasa outpost were able to recover a large quantity of dry cannabis by conducting a search on the Assam Agartala National Highway No.-8 in the local police station area around 8 pm on Tuesday. The police recovered a total of 274 kg 100 gm of dry Cannabis in 41 packets from a secret chamber of the six-wheeler container lorry Number- NL01AF2378 heading to Assam from Agartala.
The arrested driver was identified as Ajay Reang (29), resident of Bishalgarh area. Presently, the lorry loaded with Cannabis and the driver are in the custody of the local PS.
The market value of recovered Cannabis is estimated to be Rs 25 lakh and the investigation is presently underway.
However, the Police said after Preliminary investigation that these Cannabis were being taken from Agartala city area for the purpose of smuggling to Assam.
Sub-Divisional police official also said that the arrested driver will be produced Dharmanagar District court on Wednesday.
