AGARTALA, March 27 (TIWN): Extreme water crisis continues to haunt the rural lives across Tripura. Massive water crisis for a long time led the locals to block Rishyamukh-Jaolaibari road on Monday from 5 AM. Agitators have demanded immediate relief from the crisis situation. The blockade cause heavy disturbance in the vehicle movement, resulting the officials were forced to rush to the spot to convince the locals to withdraw their protests.
Talking to the locals, one of the agitators said, “Even though a water tank has been built, the villagers have been suffering for a long time due to lack of pump operator or lack of water supply. That is why the villagers of Manirampur Ban Bihari ADC village belonging to Rishyamukh Block blocked the road from Rishyamukh to Jolaibari in Manirampur Ban Bihari area from 5 o'clock this morning due to lack of water”.
“It has been around five to six hours since the locals blocked the road, but till now neither the BDO nor the police administration has arrived”, a villager of Manirampur Banbihari area told the journalist.
They informed that the water tank in Manirampur Banbihari area has already been completed, but the pump operator has not been appointed till date. Because of that, there is a problem with water supplies for a long time, the villagers are forced to drink unhygienic water due to lack of water in their area.
Later, police administration along with DWS officer came to the spot and had a talk with the agitators. After getting assurance to solve the issues, the protesters withdrew the blockade.
