Agartala, January 19 (TIWN): Due to lack of vision, the only jute mill of the state is bleeding and on verge of close down due to acute staff crunch. The ruling Left Front government have not recruited staffs and hundreds of post are laying vacant in the jute mill. Hence seriously affecting the production. However, the mill authority claim that production is not all affected due to shortage of staff, every day five tonnes materials are produced.
Few workers requesting anonymity said the jute mill once pride of the state said the jute factories will also be forced to close down if the government fails to provide spare parts, store material and fill up the existing vacancies. Due to lackluster approach of the government it’s failing to compete in the Indian market due to higher operation costs.
The factories could also get some relief if the dependence on imported raw materials could be minimized by increasing the production of jute in the local level, said sources of jute mill.
The industries are forced to import more than 90 percent raw materials from other states of the country. “An institutional provision is required for the development and expansion of jute farming in the state,” source said.
