AGARTALA, January 16 (TIWN): In the wee hours of Friday, a fire broke out near Howrah market under Battala Out Post. No damaged was caused due to fires, said police.
Police said that the fire might have risen to be a major disaster but promptness on the part of the fire tenders extinguished the fire in time.
After getting the information three fire tenders rushed to the spot. The fire was brought under control in one hour. The fire might have originated from match stick, said cops.
Some suspect that the fire originated from a burning cigarette butt thrown casually by the passers by while others said that it could have been ignited by burning thermocol.
At around 10:30 am, some shop owners saw smoke bellowing near the Howrah market. They immediately informed the locals who rushed to the spot and informed the fire service about the incident. Three fire fighters arrived on the scene immediately.
Considering the intensity of the fire, Police and traffic were rushed to the spot to assist the fire fighting operation belated.
