AGARTALA, Dec 3 (TIWN): Locals blocked National Highway in Ambassa alleging that they were not compensated after evicted from their own land for road construction. CPI-M State Secretary who was on way to Kanchanpur came forward to help the agitators On Saturday, the victims sat on a blockade in Hadukalak area of National Highway No. 8 to demand compensation. It may be noted that several residents of Janjati section of Hadukalak neighborhood of Ambasa subdivision were affected during the work of widening the national highway.
During the construction of the National Highway, 24 families in the area were evicted from their houses and the NHI used their space for the construction of the National Highway. They were assured by the administration that they would be compensated. Based on that assurance, the victims were bound to move. But even after two years, the victims have not been compensated.
On Saturday, the people of the area were forced to sit on the Assam Agartala National Highway blockade.
CPI-M State Secretary Jitendra Chowdhury, stuck at the blockade, spoke to the blockaders. The police and DCM of Ambasa police station immediately rushed to the spot, talked to the public and assured them about solution.
Finally, Ambasa sub-district ruler Sanjit Debbarma rushed to the scene. After a long discussion the protest was lifted with the assurance of the SDM.
With initiative of Jitendra Chowdhury the blockade was withdrawn.
