AGARTALA, January 13 (TIWN): A one month and 17 day old baby girl died in Araliya area of Agartala six hours after being given polio drops. The child was given the oral polio drops at Indira Gandhi Memorial (IGM) Hospital, Agartala, on January 14.
The parents were yet to choose a name for their first born. According to the parents, froth started oozing out from the baby's mouth minutes after polio drops were given to him. They claimed the baby's eyes rolled back and he started taking hiccups. By the time the baby could be taken to a health facility, he died.
The mother of the girl namely Bina Debnath alleged her girl died only six hours after taking the drops. “My girl was completely healthy. After she was given the drops, I went to my house for doing the daily chores for a while and when I got back to the child, I saw her dead,” she said.
The father of the girl namely Tulu Debnath said that we are going to file a case in the West Agartala Police Station regarding the incident.
Tension ran high in the area following the death of the girl and they are protesting to arrest the concerned authorities.
