AGARTALA, Sep 11 (TIWN): A 3.5 years old child was bitten by a poisonous snake, but the family members started running in search of Shaman in superstition instead of providing medical services. The incident happened in Mahanand Para of Manik Bazar area under Teliamura police station.
Although almost 24 hours have passed since the incident, the child is still at home without treatment.
It is to be noted that, on Friday, Karthik Debbarma, 3.5 years old son of Thirtharanjan Debbarma of that area, was bitten by a venomous species of snake while playing in the forest near the house. Hearing Karthik's screams, the family members on the spot witnessed a thick black colored snake biting his leg. Later, the family quickly brought Karthik home, from there, due to lack of money, without taking him to the doctor, he was taken to a shaman in the area for the purpose of having a cure. There the Shaman unscientifically brought out the blood from Karthik's leg, but the body parts of that infant son turned blue.
However, this incident in Manik Bazar Mahanand Para area is a burning example of the fact that people who are still alive have resorted to superstitions in the age of science.
