AGARTALA, Aug 17 (TIWN): A day after independence day was celebrated in Tripura along with the entire nation, Tripura Congress slammed BJP led State Govt for wasting taxpayers’ money on self-propaganda undermining the role of the freedom fighters behind this independence day. Addressing media at the Congress Bhawan in Agartala Post Office Chowmuhani, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman said, “Across the city Agartala there are posters of Prime Minister, Chief Minister and in some places ex-Chief Minister but there was no photo of the freedom fighters. It’s unexpected. We thought that BJP Govt will really observe this day with true devotion but nowhere a glimpse of that was witnessed”.
“We want to ask, was not there any budget for freedom fighters’ photos? Rs. 17 lakh was utilized to make the vast flag at Secretariat but could not be there Rs. 17 thousand for the freedom fighters ?”, said Sudip Roy Barman.
“Nothing was there except long speeches of the Netas and the Mantris…. Could not the Govt serve at least food in hospitals? Was there any announcement of free services for the health sectors? Then what is the meaning of this freedom ?”, added Barman.
