AGARTALA, Aug 3 (TIWN): On Wednesday depositors hanged lock in Anandapur Post Office raising allegation against Postmaster of embezzlement. Such an incident came up today at Niharnagar post office under PR Bari police station, Rajnagar block of Bilonia subdivision.
Talking with the victim depositors it is known that depositors deposited money in Anandapur Post Office at various times, but an unscrupulous postmaster identified as Rakesh Deb swallowed depositor’s money without entering it into the computer but entered in their Pass Book. And the matter came to notice when depositors visit the Post Office to withdraw their money, they found that there is no money in their account.
The postmaster allegedly consumed around Rs 17 lakhs of 26-27 depositors. Centering the alleged money embezzlement the Depositors hanged lock in the Post Office with a demand of return of their hoarded money and exemplary punishment against the corrupt postmaster. They demanded authorities and administration should come forward and talk with them about getting back their hard earned money. However, after getting news, Police rushed to the spot and tried to control the situation.
The victims alleged that the post office will remain closed until they get their money back. Now it remains to be seen what action the Post Office authorities and administration will take up against the corrupt Postmaster.
