AGARTALA, March 30 (TIWN): Though Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb has recently claimed that Tripura products from Jackfruits to Pineapples, Lemons are in demand in Europe, today the businessmen have delivered a different statement in production. It has been reported that the watermelons are coming from Punjab, Bangalore, West Bengal because Tripura farmers are no more cultivating watermelons. The reason behind that is watermelons are getting damaged and devastating the farmers. Due to imports from other states and roadway pathetic conditions, the price of watermelon is likely to go higher.
On the contrary CM Biplab Deb recently said, farmers’ income and Tripura’s production have increased heavily under the BJP Govt and the local production has been boosted.
Today, however, a wholesaler said earlier watermelons were cultivated in Tripura but now, production has been almost stopped, but Tripura’s watermelons were tastier than the imported items.
