Agartala, January 4 (TIWN): Like previous years this year also, Makar Sankranti Mela will be organized at Unakoti at 14th January. To mark the occasion, a preparatory meeting was held under the leadership of Sub- Divisional District Magistrate, Ajit Sukla Das.
The committee had taken valuable decision to make the fair a beautiful and splendid one.
Pous Sankranti Mela, or Makar sankranti mela is one of the exquisite fairs held every year at Tripura. It comes along with a festive mood to impart fervor and attachment amongst the people of Tripura with the rest of the world. Pous Sankranti Mela is celebrated with maximum zeal and enthusiasm at Tripura and is visited by most people of the country. A holy dip in the River Gomati, on this occasion, is believed to wash away earthly sins. People also perform Shradh, Tarpan and Pinda Daan rituals dedicated to the dead forefathers on the day. Known as Pongal in Tamil Nadu and Maghi in Punjab, Makar Sankranti is celebrated with much vigor in different parts of the country.
